Programs of Learning at TPPS
We have two programs that are delivered consistently across the school to ensure all students are given the best opportunity to grow and develop in their Literacy and Numeracy. We thought it would be beneficial for you as whānau to know more about these.
Structured literacy
Here at TPPS we have implemented Structured Literacy throughout the kura. This focuses on both how we teach: explicitly, systematically and cumulatively, and what we teach: Phonemic Awareness, Orthography (the spelling system), Morphology, Vocabulary, Syntax and Grammar, giving tamariki the skills they need to read, spell and write with confidence. The Little Learners Love Literacy program supports explicit and systematic teaching of reading and spelling and we are already seeing our students make excellent progress. At a higher level, students are learning The Code and this is a systematic approach for teaching spelling. If you would like to read more about these programs please check out the websites below. https://www.littlelearnersloveliteracy.com.au/ https://www.lizkaneliteracy.co.nz/about
Numicon
Numicon is an inclusive Numeracy program that aims to meet the needs of all children. This is taught across TPPS to all students from Year 0-6. Numicon is a mastery, structured Maths approach covering all contexts/strands, providing explicit teaching, explorations, and investigations based on the science of learning maths. With hands-on activities, tactile resources and real-life concepts, children learn that maths is a language of patterns and relationships. Numicon is aligned with the NZ Curriculum and is flexible to provide opportunities for our local curriculum to be integrated. If you would like to read more about Numicon please refer to: https://www.numicon.co.nz/
Digital Fluency
Focusing on enhancing digital fluency among students, TPPS aims to move beyond basic consumption of technology. The goal is to integrate digital skills into the local curriculum, fostering creativity and critical thinking through multimedia methods such as animation and movie-making.
Te Reo/Te Ao Maori Everyday
Prioritising the integration of Te Reo and Te Ao Maori into daily learning experiences, emphasising cultural relevance and understanding. You will see this and hear this daily throughout the kura.
Te Tiriti o Waitangi Implementation
Establishing clear targets to improve learner outcomes and curriculum, incorporating tikanga Māori, Te Reo Māori, mātauranga Māori, and te ao Māori in the learning experience.
Aotearoa Histories Curriculum
There are three elements to the Aotearoa New Zealand’s histories curriculum content: Understand, Know, and Do. These elements are not separate, and they are not in sequence. Teachers design learning experiences that weave these elements together so that student learning is deep and meaningful.
